Your Health Is an Investment — A Reflection for National Diabetes Awareness Month

Pexel

This month, we have to recognize National Diabetes Awareness Month, and for many of us, the topic is personal. Diabetes affects millions of Americans, including my own family. My grandmother—the same woman whose legacy inspires my daughters—lived with diabetes, and like many, she navigated it in a time when healthcare access and understanding were limited.

Today, we know more. We can do more. And with that, we can fight for our right to have access to good medical care. We can also encourage each other to step into wellness with intention. Remember to consult your health care practitioner with any questions or concerns regarding your health.

Understanding Diabetes

There are two primary types:

  • Type 1: an autoimmune condition typically diagnosed early in life

  • Type 2: influenced by genetics, lifestyle, age, and ethnicity

Millions of adults in the U.S. are living with diabetes—many without even knowing it. This makes awareness, early detection, and prevention more important than ever.

Your Health Is Not a Burden—It’s an Investment

We only get one body. One vessel. One life. Every choice—every meal, every walk, every doctor’s visit—is a deposit into that account.

How This Connects to Wellness

  • Daily choices matter. Small, consistent actions help prevent or manage diabetes.

  • Preventive care saves lives. A simple screening could change your future.

  • Healthy habits reduce stress and boost energy. Wellness isn’t about restriction—it’s about empowerment.

  • Family history matters. Understanding your family’s health story helps you know what to look for and what to prioritize.

Remember this!
🌿 When we know our family’s health story, we honor those who came before us.🌿 When we care for our bodies, we honor our future selves.
🌿 When we encourage others to start their wellness journey, that encouragement is an act of kindness.

Questions to ask yourself!

  • What is one small habit you can start this week to support your health?

  • What is your body trying to tell you right now?

  • Who in your life could join you on a wellness journey so you don’t walk it alone?

Until next time and as always, #keeprising!
